If you are worried about your work or personal life, or feel that events are getting out of control, your first priority is survival. This post will contain links to other members posts about their experiences after a planned or unplanned transition. Add a comment with a link to your post and what you want me to use as a title for that link. In your post, describe your experience and what you learned, then suggest how readers might use that experience to help them when they encounter a similar situation.

Now that you have completed this transition, set aside some time to reflect upon where you are at this moment. You should ...

  • (Example) If you have found the "perfect" or "best" job, write a post about why it is perfect or the best. Then update your LWP and any related posts. The idea is to capture what is important to you in your new job so you will be that much more prepared for your next transition.

If you have had an experience with a transition that you think would help others, please create a post either in this community or in your personal blog. Then click on one of the three "Life cycle" tabs (Before, During, After) in the Profile Owner box and add a comment with the title and link to your post.

We request that you save your post with an AR of "public" so that it is visible to anyone on the Internet (search engines will find it), or "Logged in Users" so only LWPS members can view it.

ALT-TEXT A "transition" (in the context of career/lifework planning) is the planned or unplanned change in one's career/lifework.

A planned transition is considering, planning for, looking for, and finding a new job.

An unplanned transition is losing, changing or modifying one's job due to an unexpected change in one's life (illness, death in family, etc), being fired or terminated.

The graph above was been copied from the website "Life events and career change: transition psychology in practice" by Dai Williams, Chartered Occupational Psychologist, Eos Career Services, 32 Send Road, Send, Woking, Surrey GU23 7ET, UK.

Click the graph or here to view the website and extensive information about life events and career change.

NOTE: This is a draft and subject  to change. Links are not set up properly yet.

The following nine (9) key transition/turning points in your journey thru life should cause you to stop and think (reflect) upon what has, is or will be happening to you, your life, and your work. In most cases, you will need to make some important decisions and make some plans. Starting with TR3 below we will suggest that you use digital pages (DPs) in conjunction with paper pages (PPs) to record and maintain your LifeWork plans and decisions.

Click on the "TR" link below that best matches your current or next transition/turning point in your journey to "make your dreams your LifeWork".

  • TR1 - For parents with young children
  • TR2 - Being asked at a young age (~9) the question "What do you want to do when you grow up?"
  • TR3 - Turning thirteen (13) years old and entering middle school, or an adult who has done no or little career/LifeWork planning.
  • TR4 - Sophomore in high school and thinking about what to do after graduating
  • TR5
    • TR5a - Prepare for post-secondary education (college, junior college, graduate school, etc.) or
    • TR5b - Prepare for other education/training (technical school, military, the one year "Gap", )
  • TR5 - Preparing for (re)find where to do your LifeWork
  • TR6 - Work Transitions: Luck is where your preparation meets opportunity. Prepare for a new job opportunity after being given an offer, fired, laid off, promoted, relocated, etc.
  • TR7 - (Re)searching for meaningful work. You will be doing this several times throughout your work life.
  • TR8 - Retirement
  • TR9 - Death
