The Caregiver's Journey
A "caregiver" or "carer" "attends to the needs of a child or an adult." In Old French, "carriera" meant "street;" in Medieval Latin, "(via) carraria" was "road for carts." in Latin, "carrus" was a "Galic type of wagon." In all these meanings, the word "care" is related to a journey. (Excerpt from upcoming issue of CPAD Journal on "Making a Career of Counseling Caregivers")

Welcome to the Caregiving Counseling Community
More than 50 million people are both caring for their elderly parents and trying to keep their lives balanced. Elderly spousal caregivers who experience caregiving-related stress have a 63% higher mortality rate than noncaregivers of the same age. Learn how to help caregivers recognize their stress level and manage the needs of both loved ones and their own needs. Become familiar with a unique "career and caregiving wellness model" that emphasizes financial, legal, and home-modification skills, as well as physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual techniques.
What Is a Family Caregiver?
Family caregivers, termed "carers" in many parts of the world, provide (usually unpaid) care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner. This role is becoming increasingly important, due to the rapidly growing aging population. Family caregivers often lack training or knowledge needed to manage the multitude of caregiving challenges.
