"Value of Virtual CD Communities" monograph :: Blog :: Schedule for the "Value of Virtual CD Communities" monograph

February 09, 2006

Sally said on 2/8:
I talked about the monograph with the Publication Committee today on a phone meeting. If we get the proposal to the committee this month, then we can get it reviewed and voted upon in March. NCDA needs about five months to publish the manuscript, once the final copy is received from the author. If the final copy is completed by May, and edited by June, then there's a good chance it will be published in time for ICDC. I think it is worthwhile to proceed. Even if it is turned down by the committee, it would be of value to publish as an online book (PDF document or other format) and have available to participants at NCDA and ICDC. One of the committee members suggested we add another male to contribute to the monograph. We are looking into a contributor, maybe to discuss implementing a career cybercounseling program at a university.

Clarification:The proposal and the actual manuscript are two different documents. Pete

If you have questions or comments about this schedule, click "Comments" below. Is anything missing?

    4. 2/10 - Read this schedule post and comment you agree or not to this VERY aggressive schedule. We should not do anything else until EVERYONE agrees to proceed. (Ed and Sally agree, so far.)

  1. I agree to schedule, but would like to review what topic each contributor is addressing, so we don't duplicate. Could everyone confirm their topic? Also, Pete needs to write an intro and summary. Pete, down the road, you might want to ask Helen Barrett and Martha Russell to write a Preface for, or endorsement of ,the monograph.

  2. Schedule looks OK to me, although I don't know what some of the things mean (like setting up an account). Also, I thought there was just 1 community. There are 4? Can Pete give us a link to each one? I followed the link next to that comment, but it just took me to a list of posts instead of the communities. Do we need 4 separate communities or could we have 4 separate topics within 1 community? Where do we create our post? In which community? Can Pete give us a link to the right place to post?

  3. 1. There is a link next to item 1.10 that describes what "setting up the account means".

    2. This (.. monograph ..) community is the ONLY one that is important at the moment. Ultimately, I want everyone to join the other three. If you want to do that now, just click on my name, see the other 3 communities listed under "Owned Communities" and join each.

    3. When you want to post to this community, make sure you are in this community, then click on "Post a new entry" button located in the upper left.

(I'm sorry that I am imposing all of this on everyone, but it is the only way I can manage this project. E-mail is necessary sometimes, but having posts in LWPS where eveyone can be on the same "page(s)" is critical!)

  4. See item 1.5 above for link to post where you should review and accept your topic, or propose a new one.

  5. Schedule looks workable to me. Submittal of the monograph to NCDA on 5/15 (and subsequent) is dependant upon Publication Committee approval of proposal in March. I'm just entering Marilyn and my chapter information into one community "Value of CD Virtual Communities" because I don't understand how to enter into the other communities.

  6. Sally,

You posted to the correct community.

Please see if this post about communities will help - [Click to view link] and add comments there if not clear.

Virginia, please help me convert this post I gave Sally into a lesson.
