Helen Barrett's recent keynote:
My keynote address was entitled, "Electronic Portfolios: Digital Stories of Lifelong and Life Wide Learning." In addition to some of my new thinking on the multiple purposes of digital stories in ePortfolios, one of the ideas that I presented was the concept of the "Lifetime Personal Web Space" (LPWS) introduced by Cohn & Hibbitts in Educause Quarterly, 2004. Jeffrey,

Sometime soon, I will want to create two (2) MySQL tables for LWPS: One for LifeWork data for each user, and one for professional data for each career advisor/counselor.

I have no idea, at this time, what all the fields will be, nor their attributes.

Q1: Can you create those tables for me?

Q2: Can we start with a few fields then add, delete and change as we go, or must the table be fully defined before it can be used?

Q4: How much time to modify it?

Q5: Give me a time estimate for you to write a very simple PHP program that I can add to an LWPS post that permits me to add or modify a few fields in the advisor/counselor table.

Q6: And another estimate of the time it would take you to set me up so I can modify that program, upload it to the server and test it.

Please add your comments to this post.

Thank you,

cybercounselor table

(P) means it is or may be in the LWPS Profile.

Hi Pete,

Hold off! We'll be introducing this in the next couple of weeks. We definitely think that a plugin clearinghouse community - and spotlight section on elgg.org - is the way to go. Promotion of the open source ideal and plugin functionality is imperative, and now that I'm going back to full-time Elgging, I intend to dedicate a portion of my time to this.

Thank you very much for considering this. :)

Ben

Ben,

When I can find a PHP programmer and some money, I will want to create some plugins for my Elgg system - and pass them back to you/Elgg in case you want to use them.

I think it would be a good idea to have an "Elgg plugin clearinghouse community" where plugin writers can congregate to discuss what plugins they are working on or thinking of working on. This could be a great asset for eliminating duplication of effort, and combining resources.

I see nothing in either Creating your own customised plugins or Writing a Plugin (same), nor have I seen any recent conversations about this idea.

If you have no objection, I'd like to create this community and announce it in Elgg development and add a link to that community in the two information articles above.

Thanks,

Pete
