Next Elgg release v0.7 and prior releases

v0.7 - released by Elgg devel approx August, 2006; we will convert soon thereafter

  1. 6/23/2006 - "Wireframe" of new release v0.7
  2. 6/23/2006 - Click here to see the first draft of v0.7.
  3. 5/23/ 2006 - The current Elgg roadmap announced in this post.
  4. Next release 0.7 announced in this post
v0.7 which is due for release in August will completely change the structure of the front page and logged in page. We are building a dashboard system which will allow site admins to populate a default dashboard with information they would like students to see when they first start using the system. This could include site news, communities available - in fact anything both internal and external to the install. http://elgg.net/mat/weblog/40018.html

v0.6 - May, 2006 - LWPS did not install this release because it was mostly infrastructure

Students will be able to edit their own dashboard to put content specific to them up - but in the first instance having some pre-defined content should really help users get more out of the system.
Items missing:

  1. WYSIWYG Editor and option in "Account settings" for it.
  2. Calendar

LWPS is a work in progress and less than 40% done.

I add one of five (5) per-centage-completion tags to every one of my posts. The list below is a count of the number fo posts for each tag and what each nn% tag means.

  • 1489 posts are 20%: A new post, a new draft, an idea, jumbled thoughts, the least complete.1
  • 160 posts are 40%: Maturing ideas, but still subject to significant change.1
  • 157 posts are 60%: Somewhat stable, but may yet require significant change.1
  • 216 posts are 80%: Quite stable, I feel confident that there will be few if any changes.
  • 146 posts are 100%: Complete.
  • A total of 2168 posts have been started.

I invite and encourage all LWPS members to add comments to any of my posts with recommendations for improvement.

Click on any of the five (5) per-centage-completion tags below in the "Keywords" section to see a list of posts for that level of completion.

1 Many of these posts are restricted to "Private" - only I can see them.

There is an Elgg function where you can set a flag in a post to collect comments on it and any other post so marked, and read them all when you click on your "Recent activity" button.

To set this flag, just pretend you were going to add a comment to this (or any other post) and "Click the 'Mark interesting' button to monitor new comments on your 'View your activity' page."

I'll be adding a "Please click the mark interesting button" tag to other posts that I want you to follow.

I think the flag is set automagically when you add a comment.

Sandy,

What I really want is for you to show me how to create the layers for this image, as well color the lines and color the segments.

Basically, show me how to do a few layers, and a few colors, then I'll finish it.

I need to make a clean copy of this for you to scan, unless a picture will do just as well.

The value of making it easy for people to learn about new communities

Someday, you will create a community and you will want others to consider joining it. This post will help.

I encourage everyone to create at least one community in LWPS. Virginia created Developing Technical Skills; Sally created Creating Books & Monographs. You could create a community that pertains to your chapter in the monograph, or for another passion or interest you have. For example, Debbie might have one for "K-12 Career Development" or "Using Assessment Results for Career Development" or "Incorporating technology and e-teaching into courses" (all taken from her bio). I just ask that they be related to the The purpose of LWPS.

Note that you can create "... a moderated community where you must approve membership". If you provide an LWPS service, you can use your private community as another revenue channel.

We are creating new communities in LWPS. As of 3/6 there are 14. You may be interested in joining some.

However, at the moment, there is no Elgg feature to list all communities. That will be available in a future release.

Until then, I propose that members do the following.

Procedure to tag new communities and set up RSS feeds for that tag so others will learn when a new community has been created

  1. When you create a community, please do the following.

    1. Create a post in that community to introduce it. Save it with a "Public" AR.
    2. Add a tag to that post entitled "Community introduction" so we can search for it. (You can see a list of communities using this tag by going to the "keywords" section below and clicking on "Community introduction". If you find a community that does not use this tag, please ask the community owner to add it.)

  2. COPY this URL and PASTE it into the "Subscribe" box in your "Your Resources".

    1. http://lifeworkps.com/search/rss.php?tag=community+introduction It is an RSS feed for the tag "community introduction".

  3. Periodically, click on “Your Resources”, then click on “View Aggregator” to see if anyone has created a new community and added the tag "community introduction".

Notes to me:

Please read the Procedure to tag new communities and set up RSS feeds for that tag so others will learn when a new community has been created
