LWPS development :: Blog :: Change Theme on Account Settings

January 30, 2008

On DEV LWPS, one can go to their "Account Settings", then click on "Change theme", but there are no themes there to use. Could you create a new post for this and add a link to it in this post?

---

To create a new theme:
1. In 'Account Settings', click 'Change Theme'.
2. Go to 'Create Theme' at the bottom of the page.
3. Enter desired theme name.
4. Select which theme the new theme should be based on.
5. Click 'Create Theme'.
6. Find your created theme, then at the right side, click 'Edit'.
7. Edit CSS and/or Page Shell as desired.

---

To add a new theme:

According to the ELGG Documentation:

  1. Unwrap the zip file of the theme.
  2. Upload the contents to 'mod/template/templates/'
  3. That is it - Elgg will pick up the new theme and offer it to your users.

  1. In the pull down for item 4 above there is no theme except the default theme. There should be many themes.

Did a folder of themes not get loaded?

  2. Yes, I have the same questions, plus can one bring in a new theme from outside LWPS?

What does "System message 1" and "System message 2" mean? My basic question is "How can one insert one's own masthead to replace the current masthead?

  3. Sally,

I know very little about themes and it is not a high priority item for me or Diana at this time except to get an answer to my question in comment #1. I do want you to have what you currently have on LIVE LWPS and we will do our best to accomplish that as soon as some other issues are completed.

Where did you encounter "System message 1" and "System message 2"?

  4. 1. In response to #3, in dev version, when you click on "Change Theme," System 1 and System 2 appear directly under heading.

    QUESTIONS:

    a. In dev version of my personal profile, what does the following mean:

    Visual text editing

Set this to 'yes' if you would like to use a visual (WYSIWYG) text editor for your posts and comments.

    Enable visual editor:

    Yes No

    b. Why don't any icons show up in dev version in personal profile and in communities?

    c. Why, when I click on posts in dev does systems convert back to old version (gold box)?

    d. Is there really a need for listings under "Brief Description" and same listings under icon?

    e. Why is my name not under "Members" in eCDF Community?

    f. In dev, can we really add the following widgets: video, audio, blog, files, feed, friends, text?

    g. How can I create new themes?

I CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT THE PRELIMINARY PERSONAL PROFILE. IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA BECAUSE THE URL OF ONE'S EXTENDED VERSION IS TOO LONG! I PUBLISH AND LINK TO MANY URLS IN LWPS AND THEY WOULD BE TOO LONG WITH THE NEW FRONT PAGES.

  5. OK, I answered my own question about the icons. They need to be selected again. No problem.

  6. 1. I don't get those msgs. Ask you students then report here including if they are using PC or MAC.

    a. Visual editor set to no is same as what you get on LIVE> Set to yes, you get and WYSIWYG editor. You have to try it both ways to see.

    b. I don't understand.

    c. A URL was hard coded to go to LIVE. Just add "dev." in front of the URL.

    d. Yes, that is the way it is in LIVE.

    e. Because you created the community. When others view your community they will see you name under Members.

    f. I guess. I haven't tried.

    g. You need to know CSS.

Is your last statement a show stopper - that you don't want me to install .8

  7. Diana, please make this post public.

  8. I am listed as a member in all my other owned communities except eCDF, so I still don't know why my name is not listed as a member of eCDF.

  9. I can learn CSS. If I learn, then will I be able to create my own themes on the updated version of LWPS?

Did you say on the phone that a user can change the look of the abbreviated version of one's personal profile on LWPS updated version? The keywords at the top are too wordy.

    user iconSally Gelardin on Monday, 04 February 2008, 14:29 EST # |

  10. Yes, I think you should install .8 .

    user iconSally Gelardin on Monday, 04 February 2008, 14:40 EST # |

  11. 8 I don't know why. Maybe it will be fixed when we upgrade.

    9. You should be able to. Try it on the DEV LWPS.

    - 2008/02/05 19:33-19:43: The themes weren't present when I last did database dump from LWPS to LWPS-DEV. Already added the new themes. Please check. Thanks.

  13. Yes, new themes are present, but when I preview it, they are the same.
