The value of making it easy for people to learn about new communities
Someday, you will create a community and you will want others to consider joining it. This post will help.
I encourage everyone to create at least one community in LWPS. Virginia created Developing Technical Skills; Sally created Creating Books & Monographs. You could create a community that pertains to your chapter in the monograph, or for another passion or interest you have. For example, Debbie might have one for "K-12 Career Development" or "Using Assessment Results for Career Development" or "Incorporating technology and e-teaching into courses" (all taken from her bio). I just ask that they be related to the The purpose of LWPS.
Note that you can create "... a moderated community where you must approve membership". If you provide an LWPS service, you can use your private community as another revenue channel.
We are creating new communities in LWPS. As of 3/6 there are 14. You may be interested in joining some.
However, at the moment, there is no Elgg feature to list all communities. That will be available in a future release.
Until then, I propose that members do the following.
Procedure to tag new communities and set up RSS feeds for that tag so others will learn when a new community has been created
- When you create a community, please do the following.
- Create a post in that community to introduce it. Save it with a "Public" AR.
- Add a tag to that post entitled "Community introduction" so we can search for it. (You can see a list of communities using this tag by going to the "keywords" section below and clicking on "Community introduction". If you find a community that does not use this tag, please ask the community owner to add it.)
- Create a post in that community to introduce it. Save it with a "Public" AR.
- COPY this URL and PASTE it into the "Subscribe" box in your "Your Resources".
- http://lifeworkps.com/search/rss.php?tag=community+introduction It is an RSS feed for the tag "community introduction".
- Periodically, click on “Your Resourcesâ€, then click on “View Aggregator†to see if anyone has created a new community and added the tag "community introduction".
