... Briefly, constructivist career development assumes that individuals organize themselves and the world around them into categories based on their own experiences and reflection on those experiences. ... career development involves the writing and revising of a coherent personal and professional narrative through exploration, experience, and reflection. … use the clients’ own language … a number of narrative interventions emerging … Lifelines; journaling; … autobiographies; … portfolios; ... Combining Groups, Narratives and Online Tools Satisfies Clients and Counselors (An NCDA Career Convergence article)
by Lisa Severy
... Perhaps the feature I like the most about Turning Points1 curricula is that clients have access to the online tools for two years. By explaining this in the first session, we emphasize to clients that the seminar series is designed to be a starting point in a much longer term process, that being confused is exactly where they should be and that taking the seminar is an admirable first-step in what should be an exciting journey of self-discovery. As with most narrative models, the key here is to empower clients to take control of their own process over a lifetime. Career Navigator quite literally puts the power in the clients' hands.
